Reds of the Langhe
Langhe is famous for its Nebbiolo wines and rightfully so; Barolo and Barbaresco are its most famous children. There’s more to this region than just Nebbiolo, though; there’s Barbera and Dolcetto (and just a little bit of cab sauv) to love, drink, and remember! The Langhe DOC allows more freedom than other DOCs, and so the winemakers (such as Cascina Ballarin) are free to indulge their curiosity. This experimentation gives us such a wine as the Cascina Ballarin Cino Langhe Rosso; a blend of Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which provides the wine with a deep body, full of red fruit, that shows just how well grapes from different parts of the globe can work together. The Langhe (as can be seen from the picture above) is a beautiful placeThe San Fereolo Austri Langhe Rosso is pure Barbera; wonderfully full of red fruit, very nice notes of earth and spice, all held together by a structure worthy of the Langhe hills. The final thought is that these wines are friendly, full of wonderful red fruit, just the right spiciness, complemented by a refreshing nature and wonderful body, and will be enjoyable by themselves or with a meal. Cheers!
