Our experience at the bar has been consistently excellent. The bartender, Mike, knows what wines we like and is able to make recommendations that fit well with our tastes. The appetizers that we have ordered are interesting, flavorful and light. We leave sated but not uncomfortably full. Hope that they will return the pizza topped with a farm fresh egg to their offerings.

Excellent North End Alternative…
We have been dining here off and on over the past 10 years. We stopped going regularly a few years back as the food and service had declined. We let the owners know about our displeasure. Apparently, we were not the only people to do so as the owners made significant changes to the staff (i.e., chef) and the menu. We are back to going there at least twice a month. The service has immensely improved and the food is top notch. They are also very knowledgable on the wine front. “A truly splendid Italian restaurant!”
Though we have visited Florence Italy ten times, we had to go to Tomasso Trattoria to find truly Italian food. It was outstanding and the wait staff was splendid. We were celebrating a special birthday. Everything was ready for us; many of the staff took time out to wish our guest Happy Birthday. The menu was filled with the most wonderful food. We started with the Grande Antipasto Tomasso. Each of us tried a different “Secondi”; my husband was swept away by the Salmone in Aquapazza. The menu is changed very often so I won’t continue to outline the very extensive menu. Do try to save space for desert. On this visit they had a pork entree on them menu… pork tenderloin medallions served with creamy polenta and braised greens in a mustard sauce… loved this dish. Summer has hit so our Friday night dinner was really nice as the place not jammed. Very enjoyable evening. Loved the meat balls, the sauce is so amazing. Pizza Amalfi is a nice pizza that includes zucchini. Some pasta, a little vino, and a nice Creme Brulee rounded out the meal. Excellent service. — WINEandTRAVEL
A work group of six dined here on a Thursday evening. The appetizers of arancini and burrata were absolutely delicious, although the portions were a bit small (4 tiny arancini and a tiny portion of the burrata. Several of us had the risotto di capesante. There was about 5 scallops with a small portion of the risotto. The flavors were yummy but some might find the portion more an appetizer than a main. The desserts were tasty as well. I had the flourless chocolate cake but also tried the tiramisu, apple crisp and eggnog cheesecake….wish there was a sampler!!! My wife and I have been dining at this restaurant for several years. The menu is changed quite often and one does not tire of the same thing as in other places. The food quality and preparation is excellent. The portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Service and ambience are very good. Noise level can be on the high side depending where one sit.

My wife & I had a great dinner our last time at Tomasso’s. We started with The Calamari, which was great. We both had the Encrusted Cod special, which we loved & finished with the Cannoli, which was also great. Service by Sean was 100% professional, as was the rest of the staff. We highly recommend it!
We’ve been coming here for several years and it just gets better and better. Our server Jackie was phenomenal. The food second to no one. The lamb loin porterhouse chops are to die for. Jeremy, will always suggest an excellent wine. Try any of there pastas, you will not be disappointed with any of them. Their dessert are mouth watering. Love coming here, it’s like going home to family. Thank you Mike for running an amazing restaurant.
Excellent service and high quality / seasonal food. Very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. I appreciate that they make their own pasta and offer menu items that highlight seasonal (and hopefully local) ingredients. There is a nice selection of starters, salads, pastas and entrees. It is conveniently located and has plenty of parking. I will definitely return!
The food was great – I had a salad with salmon and asked that they cook the salmon rare – it came out perfectly and the portion of salmon was quite generous. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable about their wine and foods and provided great customer service. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it was quiet enough that we could talk to one another and enjoy the meal together.
I travel 50 minutes to eat here. The food is excellent. You are made to feel welcome and appreciated. Wait staff is very knowledgeable about food and wine.
Tomasso’s is fast becoming my favorite dining establishment in the Boston area. The cuisine is absolutely exquisite!
Great place for lunch or dinner and great access off of RT 9. The wait staff is very friendly and the management do a great job making sure everyone is happy. I have even seen the management on the floor helping the rest of the staff, which in my opinion shows excellent character on the restaurant’s behalf. There is an extensive wine list and always new items on the menu every week. I enjoy visiting Tomasso Trattoria and look forward to many more meals at their restaurant in the future.

Was meeting friends in the area so we decided to come here as they have excellent food and a very nice wine list. Why travel to Boston?

We really enjoyed our meal here–the food is very authentic. We have been to almost every region of Italy, and found the food here very reminiscent of what we enjoyed in Italy. The wine list is robust, with representation from most of the Italian regions. We enjoyed our meal thoroughly, from appetizer to dessert and everything in between. Our server, Jessie, was fantastic! She had lots of information about the food and always seemed to appear at our table right when we needed her! I would recommend this spot to anyone who loves great, imaginative Italian food.
Tho I go to Tomasso often, this was my first working meeting there. We were seated in a corner with easy access to power – perfect spot for us. The waitstaff was fabulous – took cues well and let us work then eat. I chose something new – carrot risotto. Many restaurants “cheat” to make their risotto by using cream to achieve the creaminess. For this dish, Tomasso used an authentic approach – with white wine and stock. One of my favorite-ever dishes at Tomasso. It was delicious!
Made my reservation online and noted it was my s/o’s 40th. After our server settled us in at our table the hostess brought two flutes of champagne in honor of his 40th, which I thought was a nice touch and actually preferred over a dessert offering. Our server was delightful, attentive and knowledgeable about the wine selection and suggested the perfect wine with our dinners. Service was prompt. Love the atmosphere. The only drawback was there was a group sitting next to us where one of the patrons was extremely loud. That is of no fault to the restaurant. I think that for our occasion, perhaps we could have been sat next to a nongroup table.
I had been talking about the porterhouse Pork Chop to my friends and even sent them a picture from the last time we dined at Tomasso …..you can imagine how they were salivating. We were fortunate they had four of them when we dined this past week and they did not disappoint, cooked to perfection juicy & delicious and accompanied by tasty side dishes. Be sure and sample the Antipasti – this is not your old neighborhood Italian rest. Style with a can of tuna dumped on top a pile of iceberg lettuce. No -No this has a sampling of finely sliced and cured meats, refined with a dollop of house made fig preserves, crostini …caponata and some delicious cheeses ….and a few other goodies.
We went on a Friday evening for our 16th anniversary. I had mention that in my reservation and they were great when we got there. At 7pm on a Friday night they were packed. They had reserved us a corner table and our waitress greeted us with a congratulations and two glasses of what I imagine was an italian sparkling wine (cannot say champagne! 😉 ). It was a pretty open floor plan with an open kitchen. It did not matter that it was relatively loud as everything else was really nice. Food was great and authentic. Kitchen timing was perfect and our waitress was spot on. We will see them again soon.
I’ve been dining at Tomasso for quite a few years. I remember when they served Sunday brunch, with light and fluffy pancakes. I remember the short-lived bar menu, with an amazing meatloaf that inspired me to start cooking Sara Moulton’s meatloaf at home. I remember their delicious and unique pizza recipe, which got “borrowed” by another restaurant that doesn’t execute it as well. I recall my all-time favorite dish, Chef Melnick’s roast pork with vinegar peppers that I could’ve eaten night after night after night.
Most restaurants experience ups and downs if you stick with them for a decade. Tomasso has remained more consistently good than anyone could reasonably expect, and as of this writing, Tomasso’s quality is fantastic. The current menu features a bluefish entree–and as seafood fans know, it’s hard to find bluefish and even harder to find it prepared well. Personally I substitute arugula for the eggplant caponata, but either way it’s a Michelin-quality entree: fresh fish, prepared simply and well. The french fries are great, too.
Tomasso is the best and most consistent Italian restaurant in the area. Its quality rates up there with Mediterranean Turkish in Saxonville or Pomir Grill in Worcester (the best restaurant on Shrewsbury Street). You’re guaranteed great food and friendly, attentive service at a reasonable price. — Stephen S.
You would never tell from the outside what was on the inside… Convenience of online booking… Arrived and promptly seated at my table… This is a nicely decorated restaurant with an open floor plan and open kitchen where you can see the chefs creating their magic.
The bread is really awesome and they make it fresh daily. General rule of thumb… If the bread is good…, The food is good…
The amuse bouche, a pan seared prosciutto wrapped fontina cheese over baby arugula, arugula pesto and red cabbage spread finish with aged balsamic… Very well plated and quite delectable…
For my salad, mescaline greens, creamy goat cheese, roasted baby beets dressed and is sherry vinaigrette also well done…
Next course the Gnocchi Al Gorgonzola… Handcrafted sweet potato gnocchi, wild mushrooms, Gorgonzola cream with aged balsamic… The age balsamic seems to be a recurring theme but honestly…, it works and everything they do…
For the main this evening… Salmone in Agro-Dolce… Grilled Scottish salmon prepared medium served with sweet and sour braised purple cabbage, pancetta, golden raisins with sautéed spinach… perfectly prepared.
And although the dessert selection looked quite delectable… I opted to be good and just finished with my signature cappuccino…

Yep they did it again! With Aurelio Settimo wines, and a dinner line-up to kill. Incredible value for the price paid, and a wonderful pairing – Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, and 3 barolo’s graced the table, paired with salad, hand rolled pasta with killer rabbit ragu (OMG), venison, and a playful / savory dessert to highlight the last barolo of the evening! I didn’t mention the foie gras… ONE HUNK of seared fatty deliciousness over polenta, that made your knees weak!
Outstanding service, the dinner was served in the Bar area, that made it awkward and less intimate (although they hid us in the corner! and it was GREAT!). I CANT Believe I’m going through my reviews, and my reviews for Chef Danielle and Chef Michelle Blass are NOT HERE? Did they get deleted? Well, its time to update, because there are some great trends (and other not so great) happening at Tomasso that you should know about. This duo and their staff – ROCK A KITCHEN HARD, yet you feel so at home, and they make it look so simple!
I can write a full blog on how a place evolves, just on Tomasso (hey, I think I will! Ek, I can’t, I want to write a piece on “Women in the Kitchen” and feature Chef Blass). Servers have come and gone over the years, but they always manage to find gems that are true to the double T’s “welcoming, cheers-like, you are home” feel (well except for this visit where I almost turned around and went home on “Hello” – more on that later). Some locals call the place “Toomuchso’s” because it is pricey. But there is a reason for the cost, and there is a way to navigate the menu affordably – and I will let you in on ALL the reasons you should come!
1. Bar scene – your beverages WILL set you back. YES. Because it is a thing of PRIDE that you will not drink cheap crap at Tomasso. Craft, quality wines and spirits. Period. Drinks that are very thought out and carefully executed. Not happy with your drink? They will MAKE it right. EVERY SINGE TIME. Jeremy is AWESOME, and so is the rest of the crew!
That comes with a price. And its worth it. Go at Happy Hour (if you can) 3-5, 1/2 off appetizers AND PIZZA. Early start, save some $$$. Just don’t show up at 505 because the new “not so happy to meet you or see you” hostess will make you feel like a criminal for even asking (well I’m sorry, the roads were icy, and I got delayed! I had planned on being there at 445 before my teen ate me in an act of cannibalism! I know my open table was for 530!). So get there early, and you can make it an early start. BUT – BJ’s sells Tomasso gift cards for a 20% savings and they have now started a “frequent diner” program – $30 off every time you reach $300.00. So get over there!
2. New changes in management and personnel – I could write a book on servers, chefs and faces at Tomasso (HEY MAKES FOR A GREAT BLOG on my site!!!). Unfortunately, on this visit, I was so shocked at the “reception”, I almost turned around and left… I would say its a lack of experience, maybe exhaustion and probably an “off” day, which I WISH hadn’t been. I think Francisca and Daniela Iguina, the children of the MIO brand, have me very VERY spoiled. Familiar face in a different role… so I guess my expectations were higher. Not very friendly, which is not typical for this brand. I’d love to say it was my fault, but having to chose between the SUPER HAPPY Jessica, and dead on Mr. Food Shawn, it was like having to pick a favorite kid… Laziness kept us at the bar (and I didn’t want to rub the hostess any further, she just would’ve been happy to see me go! But I NEEDED my fix!). So if you are in, you can rest assured, that Jessica, Shawn or Mike (or any of the newbies) will definitely make you feel rockn good.
3. FOOD!!! THE SUPER STAR OF TOMASSO! These Chefs delivered FLAWLESS food. EACH AND EVERY PLATE. A MOUND of PERFECT carbonara, perfect cowboy steak my husband WOLFED, and the new signature dish – DUCK. Appetizers were hearty – fried seafood, polpete and burratta.
Pricey? YES. You get what you pay for – and it is WORTH THE SPLURGE. Approachable? Sure. But you don’t have to feel like you are losing your shirt to have a bite. There are tricks to eating well on a budget at Tomasso (provided you don’t run up your bar tab!). Sharing of dishes is encouraged. And Mike, the GM, is a lovable hunk of professional enthusiasm. He LOVES the restaurant and the people that visit. BUON APPETITO!

This was our first time at Tomasso and it was wonderful! The menu is set up to where you can get an appetizer to split, a small pasta and a meal. We also had the made to order tiramisu. We had an amazing evening tonight. Our waiter Brendon was awesome. Very attentive, pleasant. We were there for almost 2 hours, and enjoyed every minute.
